Auckland, New Zealand - October xx, 2008 - D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for business and consumers, today announced that Ingram Micro New Zealand, the world's largest technology distributor, has implemented a D-Link IP Surveillance Camera solution to protect stock at its South Auckland warehouse.
Since its installation of the D-Link IP Surveillance Camera solution - the largest at a single site in the Southern Hemisphere - Ingram Micro New Zealand has seen a dramatic decrease in the number of instances of both theft and damage to goods in stock. Prior to the deployment of the surveillance solution the major items targeted by thieves included popular consumer items such as laptops, PDAs, mobile phones, printers and memory sticks.
"On average we ship 2,200 orders per day on behalf of over 90 vendors," said Jay Miley, Managing Director for Ingram Micro in New Zealand. "We have a responsibility to our vendors and our customers that we always have available in our warehouses the technology products they want, when they want it. It is imperative that all products in our care remain secure at all times to ensure we are able to provide the most reliable warehousing. Having a reliable surveillance system is critical to our business."
Ingram Micro NZ has purchased 86 D-Link DCS-3220 IP Cameras, with 70 installed in its South Auckland warehouse. Four IP Cameras are scheduled to be deployed at the warehouse's security gatehouse and will connect to D-Link's business grade AirPremier DWL-32000AP managed wireless access point. A further 12 IP Cameras will be installed at the Ingram Micro NZ warehouse in Christchurch.
"This is the single biggest deployment of D-Link IP Surveillance Cameras at a single location in the Southern Hemisphere," said Domenic Torre, Managing Director for D-Link Australia and New Zealand. "The deployment at Ingram Micro NZ is testament to how many IP Surveillance Cameras you can have on an integrated D-Link network."
The cameras point down every single aisle as well as into the packing and despatch areas within the 150,000 square feet South Auckland warehouse. Unlike traditional CCTV cameras, the
D-Link cameras use Internet Protocol (IP) technology, which means that all the surveillance images are available in real time via the Web. The security solution is part of the Ingram Micro NZ network and not separate from it.
The solution is connected via Ingram Micro's fibre/copper network backbone using Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology to power the cameras. D-Link's D-View SNMP Management Software centrally manages all the security cameras on the Ingram Micro NZ network. Security images are backed up weekly, and archived footage is available on a 1 Terabyte external hard drive.
"Ingram Micro NZ IT and senior management have the ability to log into the IP Cameras from wherever they are - they don't have to be on site," said Carla Thornton, Country Manager for D-Link New Zealand. "If they want to log in from Ingram Micro's Albany office on the North Shore, they can view real time security footage or have it saved to a server and search back to identify when an incident may have occurred."
